I wouldn't say that I am a very cultural person or that I love the theatre but I everytime I go I have such a great time. Maybe I am lucky and just end up seeing good shows. On Saturday Robyn and I went out for a night in our little town of Norcross. We had dinner at the depot and then went to the Lionheart theatre for a showing of Fly'n West.
The Lionheart is coverted from an old church and is quite small. Max seating is about 85 and most of it is in old church pews raised up on bleachers. Initially, I was somewhat concerned about what I had gotten myself into. My elementary school plays were in a larger venue. However the setting was intimate and there isn't a bad seat in the house, although they are a little hard. The play began and the next 2 1/2 hours were a wonderful adventure of humor and controversy. The play tells the story of Nicodemus Kansas during the reconstruction era after the civil war. Mainly the story focused on the role and struggle of black women who fled to Nicodemus to escape the bigotry of the Eastern United States at that time. The characters are strong and humorous and provide many different generational views of the world. This is a show to see if you ever have the opportunity. Tickets are only $15 a person and it includes complementary coffee and deserts during intermission. I am looking forward to going to next show in March. Who knows, I might even audition.
